Once every two years, Vanderbilt Stadium takes on a decided orange tint. Saturday is time to test that phenomenon again.
Tennessee football fans tend to swamp Vanderbilt’s cozy, 39,773-seat stadium when the Vols (3-7, 1-5 SEC) visit Nashville every other season. Some UT zealots even buy Vanderbilt season tickets just for the one game. Full story »

Crompton's goal: Have fun, win last two

Tennessee quarterback Jonathan Crompton hasn't had a lot of fun the last six weeks. After giving up the starting job to Nick Stephens following a 14-12 loss at Auburn in September, he's played sparingly. The Vols (3-7) went just 2-4 during that stretch.

Hamilton says search could end 'sometime early to mid-December'

In some rare public comments concerning Tennessee’s search for a new football coach, UT athletic director Mike Hamilton said the search process should conclude within a month.
“I think it’s reasonable to expect that sometime early to mid-December,” Hamilton said when asked about his timeline on WNOX’s Hallerin Hilton Hill radio show on Wednesday morning. “But I don’t want to put a date on it because as surely as you put a date on it, then if you don’t have a contract nailed down by that point then people assume you’re not getting your guy.” Full story »

Berry learned to like hitting

Knowshon Moreno and Marquise Maze won’t likely believe it but there was a time when Tennessee super safety Eric Berry didn’t like to hit. “I had to catch my tackling up,” Berry said. “Back in little league, we did a tackling circuit everyday because I really wasn’t that good at tackling and didn’t like contact until I was about 12.”

Fulmer claims Berry 'had a shoulder thing'

The ongoing talk about Tennessee safety Eric Berry playing offense took a new twist Tuesday.

According to UT coach Phillip Fulmer, Berry has played at least a portion of the year with a shoulder injury that could require surgery after the season.

Nearly two weeks after Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer's ouster, some players remain angry with athletic director Mike Hamilton's decision.

Crompton 'enthused' about getting start

Crompton to start against Vanderbilt

Quarterback Jonathan Crompton will start for Tennessee this week at Vanderbilt, UT coach Phillip Fulmer said Sunday evening in his weekly teleconference.
Crompton is 80-for-158 passing (51 percent) for 788 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions in six games this season. He started UT's first four games before giving way to sophomore Nick Stephens following UT's 14-12 loss at Auburn in September. Full story »

ESPN: UT gauges Smith's, Gruden's interest

ESPN reported Sunday that Tennessee gauged the interest of Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith in its search to replace UT coach Phillip Fulmer.
According to the same report, UT also put out feelers to Tampa Bay Buccanners head coach Jon Gruden, a former graduate assistant at Tennessee under Johnny Majors. Full story »
